Last night was the first ever Anthropologie fashion show for Oklahoma City.  I just so happened to get lucky enough to be off yesterday, so I got to enjoy the event as a spectator.  The scene was a summery, resort feel with sangrias, fresh appetizers, and lovely models in beautifully creative assembles.  It was such a great evening.  I got to take my mom as my date.  Plus, my new friend and fashion blogger Rachael Taylor came and talked me into taking outfit pictures.  Otherwise, I would’ve have nothing to show for myself!

The dress I wore was from my old store.  It is made by a line based out of Canada called Covet.  I love this dress, and it is perfect for a special event like a fashion show!  Isn’t the back to die for?!

To complete the outfit, I donned my wear-with-anything wedges, which I bought in a great shoe boutique in Santa Fe.  Unfortunately, I can’t remember the shop’s name.  Also, I wore a great statement necklace from Anthropologie…probably my favorite part of the outfit.  Then, I unconsciously was matchy-matchy with my toenails.  I painted them Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos right at the last minute, but they complimented my turquoise necklace perfectly!

I must give Rachael compliments for these lovely pictures.  Thanks for teaching me how to model a little better!  I always feel so awkward in front of the camera…I’m trying to get better. : )

So, Brian graduated from OU today.  And it was kind of a big deal.  Brian has had an interesting journey through school.  He started at age 18 getting his gen-eds knocked out at a junior college.  Then, he went to OBU for a year and half during which he worked towards Biblical Studies and Anthropology.  Then, he went on the adventure of a lifetime to YWAM Honolulu where he spent 6 months doing missions training and going on outreach to Bangladesh. When he returned, getting the finances to get back in school became an issue.  He stayed in Shawnee but was forced to work full-time until he could make his way back into school.  Fast forward a couple years and that’s when I met him as I was graduating from OBU.  Fortunately for Brian, the timing was right and he was just starting back to school at OU, so the whole time I’ve known Brian, he has been plugging away at school while juggling a full-time job and just life in general.  So, today was a big day for him and for us.  He finally made it happen (after almost 8 years).  He never gave up because it’s something he really wanted to do.  I’m so proud.  He just mentioned to me that he’s feeling antsy for what’s next.  It may be a master’s program.  It may be teaching.  It may be more missions work.  We don’t quite know.  He just knows he wants to have an affect on people’s lives.  I think his story of perseverance is a pretty good start!  So proud of him!

Last Thursday, I got home from work and there was a tiny kitten in my husband’s lap.  He surprised me with this itsy bitsy bundle of joy!  We have been talking for a year now about getting a buddy for our baby Biscuit (who I’ve featured on here just a couple of times).  She’s is always getting into trouble and is extremely social for a cat.  We just thought she’d love a playmate.  Then, that got us to thinking that it would be so cute to call him “Gravy”.  Up until now, the timing just hadn’t been right to get a kitten.  Then, last week, Brian thought, “Why not now?”, so he went to the OK Humane Society.  He told me when he saw Gravy he instantly knew he should be ours.  He was the best, little surprise ever!!!

P.S. Saving innocent animals is something that holds a special place in my heart.  If you have room in your lives’, you should consider rescuing an animal from the Humane Society or the pound.  It’s heartbreaking the little lives that could be so full and happy if only someone would just take them home.  Trust me.  It will only make your life better as well as theirs.  : )
