Our good friends Patrick and Stephanie just opened a quaint little cafe, and their grand opening was today. Brian and I have watched them lovingly and carefully prepare for this endeavor for months now. They leased out a tiny old gas station and have spent much time remodeling, repurposing, and reviving this little hole-in-the-wall. While both of them worked their day jobs, they spent their spare time working on getting the space ready. They painted it from top to bottom. They added planters and vines to the facade. They built a kitchen from scratch. I might add that Patrick is probably one of the most resourceful people you will ever meet. He is known for “dumpster diving” for abandoned wood, furniture, appliances, etc and giving those things new life. Another thing to know about this pair is their passion for an urban agrarian lifestyle. You can either find them tending their chickens, strolling through the local farmer’s markets, or cooking experimental meals for their friends.
They decided on a pretty basic menu with simple, organic, and local ingredients. I have tried the vanilla latte, the breakfast frittata, and pumpkin chili…all of which were delicious. They even put so much care into their ingredients that they make their own homemade vanilla syrup! On the menu, they offer a variety of coffee drinks (using Elemental coffee), organic beverages, breakfast food, and lunch items. They also have a few locally made products for sale.
Today, they went all out with a sweet picnic setup, blankets to beat the cold, and kites & frisbees to enjoy with your friends. I love the uncontrived vibe of the environment they have created. They are down-to-earth, go-with-the-flow type of people and that comes across in their business.
Needless to say, I think they are on to a good thing. The drive-thru cafe is not like anything I’ve ever seen, especially in Oklahoma City. It reminds me of something from Austin or Portland. Their future plans are to host weekend farmer’s markets and to allow food trucks to utilize their parking lot. I can’t wait to see their business grow and the fun things they will come up with. So please, stop by and see my friends Stephanie and Patrick at Greenhorn located at 4th & Western in downtown OKC. You will not be disappointed.facebook and twitter!
