We currently have works by mixed-media artist/ceramist Gina McKinnis in our shop “gallery”. She is a talented local artist based out of Edmond, OK. She is known for her whimsical, child-like aesthetic but there is absolutely nothing childish about her pieces. She puts so much detail and care into each stage of every piece she does. As for her training, she is primarily a self-taught experimentalist. She uses several different mediums in her mixed-media works including paper collage, clay, textiles, and paint. It is truly amazing to study her works and wonder at what all went into the final product!
Her ceramic items are crafted and hand-built from either white or red earthenware clay. She primarily creates slab pieces, as opposed to wheel-thrown pots. After creation, her ceramics are then bisqued, glazed, and low-fired til completion. She incorporates designs and wording using an underglazing technique. She has also made a habit of “recycling” her extra clay into the sweetest lil’ hearts and flowers that make the loveliest lil’ gifts. : )
So that’s Gina. She’s a whole-hearted, fun-loving, zumba-teaching lady! You gotta love her, and you gotta love her art!
